Submission Guidelines

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS TO THE

LORETO COLLEGE JOURNAL OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

Submissions should be original and not previously published elsewhere or submitted for consideration to any other journal. Manuscripts may be rejected without peer review by the Editorial Board if they do not comply with the instructions for authors.

The following files are to be submitted separately. All files are to be submitted in MS Word unless otherwise specified.

  1. Abstract: An abstract within 300 words and four/five keywords along with it. This file should not contain the author’s details. The abstract should provide the gist of the argument of the paper indicating the scope, range and theoretical perspectives. It should contain the title of the paper. It is submitted to different indexing bodies and collections of abstracts. Therefore, it should be written in lucid English keeping the international reader in mind.
  2. Author’s Declaration: The author must submit a declaration stating that the article submitted is his/her original writing and that it has not been submitted to any other journal or publisher for publication. Papers once submitted to this journal, cannot be withdrawn without permission.
  3. Title Sheet: The title Sheet should contain the Name/s of Author/s, Designation and Affiliation, address, mobile number and email ID.
  4. The Paper: This file should contain the entire article including the title. It must not mention the name or contain any information about the authors. No borders or decorations are required.
  5. A separate file should be submitted containing all charts, tables, figures and illustrations. Authors will be responsible for negotiating permission if and where necessary for reproducing illustrations, etc. Permission should be sought well in time so that the press is not held up.
  6. All contributions should be emailed to lcjhss@loretocollege.

General Instructions

  • Length of contributions- Research Articles (2,500–5,5000 words including notes and references) Book Reviews (600–1,500 words)
  • The contributions should be submitted in MS Word.
  • The APA citation style should be used. Please refer to https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/references/examples
  • The text (in font size 11) and endnotes (in font size 10) should be double-spaced.
  • British spellings are preferred to American alternatives.
  • All quotations should follow the original exactly in respect of spelling, capitalization, italicization, punctuation, etc. Quotations not exceeding 25 words may run on with the text should be in single inverted commas. Quotations longer than 25 words should be indented 0.5 on both sides without quotation marks. Such block quotations should be in font size 10 and single spaced.
  • Full details are to be provided for other sources such as facsimiles, newspaper articles, interviews, material on microfilm, websites (page title, full URL and date of access), etc.
  • For act, scene and line references to plays, the italicized title should be followed by a comma, act no. in capital roman numerals, stop, scene no. in lower-case roman numerals, stop, line no.(s) in Arabic numerals. Example: Ben Johnson, Volpone, II.ii.10-12.
  • Titles of constituent sections, essays, poems, etc. should be placed within single quotation marks.
  • The copyright of all articles published in the journal will belong to Loreto College, Kolkata.

বাংলায় লেখা প্রবন্ধের জন্য বিশেষ নিয়মাবলী :

  • পশ্চিমবঙ্গ বাংলা আকাদেমির বানান-বিধি অনুসারে প্রবন্ধটি রচিত হতে হবে।
  • মূল প্রবন্ধে ব্যবহৃত ইংরেজি শব্দগুলিকে প্রথমে উচ্চারণ অনুযায়ী বাংলা হরফে লিখতে হবে। তার পরে প্রথম বন্ধনীর মধ্যে মূল শব্দটিকে রোমান হরফে লিখতে হবে।
  • ভারতীয় ভাষায় নয়, এমন কোনো গ্রন্থ, জার্নাল, প্রবন্ধ ইত্যাদির উল্লেখ তথ্যসূত্রে ইংরেজি ভাষায় (রোমান হরফে) করা আবশ্যক।
  • প্রবন্ধটি কালপুরুষ font, font size 14, 1.5 spacing এ লিখে দিতে হবে।

Specific Guidelines for Tables, Artwork and Illustrations Tables

  • All tables should be submitted separately (i.e. not within the body of the manuscript) in a single text file.
  • Tables should not be in picture format.
  • Tables are to be numbered using Arabic numeral 1 only, serially as 1.1, 1.2., 1.3, etc. Tables should not be numbered as 2, 3, and so on.
  • Tables should always be cited in text in consecutive numerical order.
  • Each table should have a table caption (title) explaining the components of the table.
  • Identify any previously published material by giving the original source in the form of a reference at the end of the table caption. Artwork and Illustrations Guidelines
  • Figures (charts, graphs, diagrams, maps, etc.) should be supplied as separate JPEG image files.
  • The image resolution should at least be of 1000 px width.
  • The file should be named by the figure number.
  • All figures are to be numbered using Arabic numerals.
  • Figures should always be cited in text in consecutive numerical order.
  • Figures and figure parts should be denoted by Arabic numeral 1 only, serially as 1.1, 1.2., 1.1.1, 1.2.1.etc. Figures should not be numbered as 2, 3, and so on.
  • Each figure should have a concise caption accurately describing what the figure depicts. Include the captions in a separate text file.
  • Figure captions begin with the term Fig. in bold type, followed by the figure number, also in bold type.
  • No punctuation is to be included after the number, nor is any punctuation to be placed at the end of the caption.
